Blue Cups - Tea and Sympathy?

This week's theme for the 52 week illustration challenge is BLUE. So I dreamt up some little teacups and created them with watercolour...

I started to wonder if this is what I'd need for a little tea and sympathy? A nice cup of tea in shades of blue... And I began to realise that my current favourite shade of blue had shifted from Winsor Blue Green Shade (centre) to Winsor Blue Red Shade (right).... I wonder what yours is? :) I also began dreaming of the possibility of doing some editorial illustration someday - though perhaps using reference pictures instead of pulling shapes out of from the memory banks...

If the sky was orange...

If the sky was orange, the ground crimson rose, and clouds were shades of blue, green and purple, then I'm pretty sure this is how the village that sits within that landscape would look.... Another little sketchbook adventure combining pattern and line in my illustrations - another little celebration of Spring.

Spring is HERE!

My latest sketchbook adventure has been with an aim to combine the patterns and lines I love so much with illustration... Maybe in the future I might have the chance to use these shapes and patterns in my digital children's book illustrations too! :)

Shades of Blue vs. Shades of Red

Latest sketchbook experiments... :) I've been sick with the flu this week - but it's given me time to doodle and illustrate - just for fun!

Finished! New Artwork and a New Etsy Shop!

This digital painting, created in Photoshop, was started ages ago! Recently I've been sick in bed with a nasty flu - but the up-side was that it gave me time (in between naps) to complete this artwork.

The aim of the artwork was to experiment with colour and light - the cool light cast by the moon verse the warm light cast by the glowing flowers. And I think it worked well! :)

I've also now opened my Etsy shop - and this is available for sale as a print, so head on over and check it out: www.kathyapplebyart.etsy.com
